Hangover Prevention Tips
Drink a glass of water between every single drink of alcohol. By drinking one glass of water for every shot, glass or can of alcohol you consume, you will help to prevent starting the new year with a hangover.
Skip the Sugar
Skip the mixed cocktails full of sugar. Sugar is a recipe for blood sugar imbalance, which means headache and upset tummy.
Chug Before Bed!
If you can’t or forget to rotate your drinks, the next best thing is to chug 2 – 3 cups of water right before you go to bed. Better yet, drink 2-3 cups of coconut water before bed and again first thing in the morning. This will help to rehydrate you and reduce the possibility of a hangover. Coconut water is as close to blood plasma as you can get and was used in Vietnam in place of IV’s to hydrate soldiers.
The “B” Fix
Supplements can actually help your hangover! In addition to chugging water or coconut water before going to bed, you should also take a B-complex vitamin. After a night of drinking, your B’s are depleted because the liver is using them all up in order to process the alcohol.
Chlorella is a green algae and helps to fuel and restore the liver and floods the body with vitamin B12 which is lost after a night of drinking. According to a study at Sapporo Medical University, 96% of hangovers can be prevented by using chlorella. Take some chlorella tabs before you go out and every hour during your night of drinking.
Help for the Headache: Homemade Sports Drink
Many people think sports drinks help you recover from hangovers, but they are filled with sugars and chemicals that often make your headache worse. A much better alternative is:
- 1/2 lemon, juiced
- 1 cup coconut water
- pinch of sea salt
- a drop of pure maple syrup
The coconut water helps to rehydrate, the maple syrup provides the glucose that is lost when you are dehydrated, the lemon juice adds some flavour while helping with detoxification and the sea salt provides you with minerals/electrolytes.
The Morning After Detox Smoothie
- 1 banana
- half an avocado
- 1/4 cup berries
- handful of spinach
- 1/2 cup pineapple
- 2 cups coconut water
- 1 tablespoon of bee pollen
Blend all the ingredients for the ultimate hangover detox smoothie. Every ingredient will help speed your body to a full recovery. The avocado has good fats that balance blood sugar. The banana has potassium to help prevent dehydration, as does the coconut water. The leafy greens help with detoxification. And the bee pollen has lots of B vitamins, which are very helpful when recovering from a hangover.
Happy New Year!!
